In second grade, students become more confident in using their library skills to find great books. We also start to build on the foundational tools of becoming great researchers. Students learn that they should pick books based on their reading ability and interest, and begin to explore favorite chapter book authors. In the middle of second grade, students "read around the library" to learn the Dewey Decimal System and how it can help them find great nonfiction book selections.
