Philosophy
We are a teaching library. Our goals are to help each student become responsible and respectful library patrons, foster a love of books, and to teach library skills such as choosing appropriate books, taking care of them, and sharing them with others.
Policies and Procedures
All students visit the library once a week (4th and 5th grade library schedules are set in mid-September and end in the beginning of June). Literature lessons and research lessons are taught during this time. Time is provided at the end of each class period for book selection and silent reading. Students are responsible for the books they check out, which includes taking care of the books and returning them by their due dates.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students may borrow one book for one week. If a book is forgotten once, the student may check out one additional book, but must return BOTH books the following week. Students with two forgotten books are not allowed to check out another book until both books have been returned.
Students in grades 2* – 5 may borrow two items for up to two weeks.
*grade 2 may borrow two items beginning in January.
Overdue notices will be sent out as needed. There are no fines for overdue items, but prompt return is appreciated as books are shared by everyone in our school. Materials must be returned before any other items may be borrowed.
Lost Books
If a book is lost, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can register it as “lost” in my computer system. Students may then continue to check out books as usual. Lost books that are not found by the end of the school year (June) must be paid for before the last day of school. I will send out notices beginning the first week of June with the replacement cost. Most books cost between $10.00 and $20.00 to replace.
Thank you for your support of the Brunswick Acres Library. Together we can help our students have a positive and productive library experience. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.
